Well...now what do i do?

ok..so IIMB has this really cool Exchange programme wherein we get to spend 3 months in a foreign university...and as part of that programme i got Bordeaux University, France yesterday...but things are not as simple as they seem...theres a second rnd to the whole process and ppl change their preferences during this time period causing every premeditated calculation to go awry...and utter chaos prevails...
so as of now i am kinda confused on wat to do...will update as and wen things become clearer... :)

About movies, movies and some more movies...

hmm...another weekend...another time to ponder and reflect...thank god for these weekends actually.....helps in preserving your sanity.... :)
anyways so the major issues facing me this weekend were whether i should watch aviator first or million dollar baby or finding neverland?....i decided to take up MDB first up....enjoyed it but it kind of didnt seem to b oscar winner material....though hillary swank was first rate....where does this actress keep resurfacing from at regular intervals?...the only movies i hav seen her in r boys dont cry and insomnia apart from mdb...
then tried to watch aviator but the print was pathetic...so took up finding neverland instead and boyyyy....wat a movie it was!!!..the awesomest movie i hav seen in recent times...it was simply out of the world...
i am the kinds who prefers these soft romantic, often slow moving movies with heart tugging climaxes and amazing performances....moreover it was a british setting which only added to the enjoyability quotient....also the print was amazing making it a bumper harvest for me :)
the last scene where jonny depp sits on the bench with peter and talks to him about his departed mother was something that i just cannot forget....the emotions were brought out in an extremely subtle way...
also kate winslet was top class as usual....she just outdoes herslef with every movie....have gotten to quite like her movies...rite from titanic to iris to eternal sunshine to sense and sensibility etc etc...
then ofcourse there was the inimitable dustin hoffman and jonny depp...however the people who stole the show were the 4 boys....just how do these kids manage to put up such good acts???
after watching these 'oscar season' movies i graduated to 'kate and leopold'...meg ryan was as cute as ever and hugh jackman was good too....this was the first hugh jackman movie i was watching....and the concept ofcourse was kinda different...
phew...enuff of movie watching for me..lemme get down to work now...

A PPT a day keeps enthusisasm away....

Its placement time out here in iimb and that implies PPTs PPTs and some more PPTs....now wat exactly is this 3 letter acronym u may ask?...well for those uninitiated with the limitless world of management jargon...its a "Pre Placement Talk"...some prefer to change the last word to Torture but hmm...more on that as u read on...
So wat am I, a first year doing attending ppts??....good question....well since the seniors are having such an amazing time filling up forms/preparing for the final interviews/writing end term exams and generally getting tense about life that attending PPTs is a headache they want to pass on to their juniors at the first possible chance....and we juniors are the perfect "bakras" as I prefer to call our tribe...this funda of swapping and getting someone else to attend was never there during our summers process wen we were getting massacred by the unending flood of ppts...but well c'est la vie i say...
anyways so todays ppt was one of those kinds which I would call a Class III ppt....me has my own method of ranking ppts....which is somewhat different from the conventional way of classifying companies who come to recruit on campus....(in terms of days that is)....
rather for me a class I ppt wuld b one which holds ur interest for atleast the first 5 mins....a class II ppt wuld b one where looking at the face of the guy whos talking makes me reach out for my cell immediately...and Class III wuld b those whr my PPT group would fight amongst each other not to attend...showing the path to enlightenment in terms of the ennui value of the same....
me has had the good fortune of attending one each of all the three in this final placement season till now....
the class I ppt was that of my summers company...(plz note the speed and agility with which i hav classified it 'class I') ....the seniors who came to attend were all the topper variety...they looked moderately interested..didnt yawn endlessly through the ppt and tried not to pass notes amongst each other....moreover they also didnt make the mandatory attendance sheet very obvious....showing that they gav atleast some iota of respect to the company...kind of heartening i wuld say...but wat was shocking was the extreme enthu they showed in rushing towards the centre of the classroom when at the end of the ppt the company began distributing t-shirts....quite a stampede it was...leaving me to contend with a small size t-shirt....mayb my bro wuld wear it....
the class II ppt i went for was kinda fun coz ppl asked stupid questions, talked non stop and decided that reading magazines was a better utilization of their non existent time....
now coming to todays ppt...well...the typical class III ppts where the seniors begin early in the day by literally begging us (the juniors) to attend in their place with sundry assurances of treats/direct cash and even future employment if we went....
so i finally decided to offer myself up as a bakra and decided to go....wen i got to the venue i found that internal glitches were causing the company to wait and the ppl who had come to take the ppt were as disinterested as us....not letting go of their cell phones and hoping against hope that the ppt gets cancelled...(me was hoping the same tho)..
wen the ppt finally began i rushed to grab the last row seats and was narrowly beaten to it by a fellow batchmate..wat with the pushing and shoving going on amongst the rest of the fortunate ppl who were attending...i say "narrowly" beaten coz i eventually managed to get to my chosen destination by moving like lightning and reaching the solitary empty chair in a movement reminiscent of superman and his likes....
the ppt was awful to say the least....the package offered was silly in terms of value and the presenters lacked any sort of charisma....or even basic presentability....
the most awkward moment came wen the presenter asked for questions and there were none...
anyways all heaved a sigh of relief wen it finally got over...which made me wonder y ppl bother having these ppts in the first place?..but then i guess its the way things work out here...chalo more on life later on....

Of Midterms, Crises and Valentines Day....

So here i am back again....
r exams got over today...now dont ask which exams coz i myself dont kno.. :)
as one of my batchmates very succintly put it.. "its forever exam time in IIM Bangalore..."
these were ostensibly the "midterms"..so v r kind of allowed somewhat of a break....the definition of a break here being having no pressing submission/report/ppt/watnot on ur head for a maximum of 24 hrs....infact sometimes this whole marks marks marks thingy gets to me....i mean y in hell does the whole world hav to b so competitive?...anyways more on that later...(can write a book on it :)
day before was valentines day...and well the whole rigamarole of love was played out as it is usually every year...r mess actually had a candle lite dinner for us...which infact became quite an anti-climax coz we couldnt c wat we were eating (the lites were switched off) and there were no chapatis.....so u kinda felt as if u hadnt eaten enuff...also all the "real" couples were nowhere in site...talk abt paradoxes...
today me was also wondering whether i am the only homesick guy on this planet?...from college i used to keep pushing off for home frequently...but bangalore to home bcomes a bit too much even for my homesick legs to handle....so here i am wishing i was sitting cosily in my room at home..eating home cooked yummy food rather than the tasty trash dished out at the mess and watching my favorite channel on TV...or rather just flipping channels...and ofcourse bugging my parents and bro...ahhh paradise....
but wonder of wonders there are other like minded creatures out here who do keep rushing off home..but they r lucky....chennai is as close to blore as delhi was to jaipur...then i used to pity the south indians..and now i envy them...talk abt changing times... :)
anyways me done with my dose of velapanti for the day...will continue later....

Blogging Rocks...or does it?

friends, romans and all those velaa ppl who happen to stumble onto this immensely private corner of mine....HULLO...NAMASTE etc etc....
this is me writing my second...and first serious post on my newly created blog.....
ever since i have been seeing the kind of fun ppl hav been having writing abt themselves on their respective blogs i hav wished to hav one of my own....and Voila!...i hav one for myself today :)
i solemnly resolve to use this space to pen my daily (IIM schedule permitting) ramblings and arbit thoughts...which on any given day i wuld rather keep to myself.....hope it works...
only time will tell... :))

Genesis...

and then there was light....
well considering i hav just come back from seeing a smasho movie called BLACK....(wonder how it ever got made in this staid and stereotypical bollywood of ours...)....i guess its an appropriate way to start off my blog...hmmm seems like i am not making sense to my own self..well but thats wat my blog was supposed to b rite?..a place whr i can just b myself...hope it turns out that way....so long for now...
