The Summers that was...Part II

Carrying on from where I had left off... April 11th Monday: This was the day wen v met the 3 IIMA interns going to new york to do their intership at AEFA....decent ppl exxept for one of them...a CA who thot the world of himself...anyways what pinched was the fact that AMex took summer interns from IIMA for the US and from IIMB for gurgaon!!...but i hav no regrets personally coz i got to go home, meet my old college friends, visit my favourite places in Delhi, spend time with my Parents and generally enjoy life at Chhawla..especially over theweekends.. anyways the rest of the week went off in mundane stuff like getting oriented etc..and then came Friday the 15th of April...me took a half day and rushed HOMEEE....to jaipur...ummed singh got the car to office and i set off...only problem being that it was too hot..and the maruti didnt hav an AC..so i got baked in the heat...but anyways got home...and then had an awesome time coz Mom was already thr....went to c a stupid movie called Tango Charlie and generally enjoyed myself over the weekend.....
got bak on Monday morning straight to office....work continued....but this time the added distraction was the incoming Freshers welcome for the fuchchas who wuld b joining IIMB this yr...
so on Saturday, 23 April I went to college to get some pressing work regarding my degree done...and i enjoyed myself tremendously just sinking in the atmosphere at good old college..everything was more or less the same and exam season was on..so I went straight to Muk West..whr Shane a junior friend of mine stays...spent time with him reading the yearbook..and then met a few other juniors from Economics and had lunch with Charchit a batchmate of mine..who came all the way especially to meet me....also met up with Hitesh another friend who was luckily living near college....was finally off after a verry hectic day..
Come Sunday, the 24th of April and I went off to hav an afternoon rendezvous with the great Mr. Jolly...aka harshdeep at one of the famous Gurgaon malls which are actually quite boring coz if u hav seen one of them u hav seen all....but anyways we ate at a decent place and then it was time for me to go to MDI to pik up my fellow IIMB colleague to push off to Irish Cafe in the PVR Priya complex where the Freshers welcome was being held...it didnt turn out to b as great as expected tho..the females were ok types and the place turned out to b too small to house almost 45 ppl who had turned up...and soon it was difficult to breathe in the small place...so i cut a relatively early exit...and it had begun raining too....but all in all a very hectic weekend....
so by then i had finished 3 weeks of my internship and workwise i was effectively still at the starting blocks..but otherwise i was having fun...the Chhawla mess was awesome and the staff were also pretty efficient...tho i used to shout at them once in a while..just for the heck of it...and i had a driver to take me wherever i wanted on weekends etc..more on all this in Part III....

The Summers that was!!!--Part I

So heres the first post abt my Summers Experience...and I have been dying to write about it!...it had quite a few bitter sweet moments and am just waiting to offload all of them on this page so that atleast they get recorded for posterity if not for introspection.. :)
Well to begin at the beginning....it started on the 3rd of April with my erm 3 exams getting over...wat a relief that was...i immediately buzzed off to meet Manpreet who had just landed...
then was the hectic ritual of packing up all my stuff which was tremendously back breaking i must say....but somehow that unpleasant taks was completed and i was ready to take the flight to delhi the next day..thats April 4th...now here comes a date by date description of what happened thereafter...
4th April Monday: I land in Delhi in the evening at around 7.30 ish and am received by the very loyal BSF ppl....am carted off to the Officers Mess at Chhawla...on the outskirts of Delhi and bordering Najafgarh..the home of Virender Sehwag..well anyways Chhawla was to become my home for the next 2 months..and wat a nice proxy home it was!!
My dad joined me soon after...flying from Jodhpur...and we had a nice dinner there...a wellcccooome break from the mess food at IIMB which gets on ur nerves within a week itself...
5th April Tuesday: I knew that the Amex timings were from 2 pm onwards so I was waiting for their cab to come and pick me up...kept waiting till 3 and no sign of the cab...and then Charu the HR female who sat on the first floor (which I ofcourse camer to know about later) calls me up and apologizes and asks me to come by my own conveyance!!
anyways after mistaking another office for the AMex office i finally land up thr..and am welcomed by Kavita Mehra...the administrative incharge....and am introduced to my team after meeting my Director... Subroto...
so i am to b part of the Customer Underwriting Team under Amit Mondal...the other members of my team being Sharada, Aashti (both SBAs..as they were called in Amex),Sapan shah,.... and then a guy who was to become a close friend and mentor of sorts over the next few weeks....ladies and gentlemen....drum rolls plz.....DIVYESH mahajan....
wen i first met divyesh he seemed a veteran at Amex..someone who had been aroubd for a few years at the least...but it later turned out that he had just joined barely a month ago!!..and he was also going thru the little sas book..which was to become my constant companion for the coming days before i voluntarily decided to get rid of it..
anyways on the first day i got acquainted with the organization as a whole..for eg. got to know that there were 4 floors in the building in all...out of which 2 and a half were hijacked by the call centre ppl...we used to call them HBs....standing for h***y b****es..what with the amount of makeup etc that they used to put and their constant sashaying up and down..
anyways to get bak to the point:
April 6th Wed to April 8th Fri: The week went off in getting the cab to come to my place at the rite time....it so happens in amex that on thursdays the cab routes get changed so the entire confusion of having a new cab to pick me up had to b restarted...but all in all my original cab was quite a nice one with a girl called garima in it...and the cab driver also became friendly with urs truly coz i was the first pick up and the last drop..and at 11 at nite wen u r tired like hell and bored to boot u dontt mind talking nineteen to the dozen to even the strangest of ppl...soon i got to know his entire life history....but it was all good fun...
April 9th Sat: My dad came bak from Kashmir to spend the weekend with me..which was so cool...we went to PVR Saket and saw "Shall we dance"
it had been ages since i saw a movie at PVR anupam so i was surely quite pleased with myself..and the previous nite we had had dinner at The Raddisson's Kebab Factory :)
Thus came to an end my first week at Amex and the beggining to my Summers Story...

Comp Woes

Hulo ppl....first things first...my comp decided to conk off yesterday during a harmless operation of shifting its position from one place in the room to another so now hav to go to the CC and write this out...
didnt know comps protested being shifted abt just like us humans....just the other day i was complaining abt the fact that i hav had to come bak to bangalore from the secure and familiar environs of delhi once my summers got over....and now my comp decides to complain too :(
anyways enuff cribbing...the point is that today i had a rocking day with an old college friend of mine who has recently come to bangalore as part of his new job...hes moved in very close to campus and his flat rocks!!...nice getaway for me on weekends i must say....
i also hav a lot to write abt my summers experience and the fun that i had thr both in the true sense of the word and the sarcastic sense of it....but all in all it has atleast forced me to consider seriously certain pressing issues regarding career introspection which i wuld hav otherwise put off had the summers not happened..so as they watever happens happens for the good :-)
thats me turning philosophical post a sumptious lunch at "the only place"(a nice little continental restaurant in b'lore)...followed by a delicious, unforgetful chocolate nut sundae at the corner house in residency road...wowwwww...life rocks....
more on summers in my next post..till then tata...
