An ode to PPTs...

A PPT a day keeps happiness away,
Oh!..how each morning we pray,
That today be an uneventful day..
When we wont have PPT games to play,
Somehow find an excuse not to attend..
the days PPTs, by trying to pretend,
Sickness, Ill-Health or Pre-occupation,
with tasks more urgent..using our imagination
to dodge, avoid or somehow escape,
the impending torture, the mental rape!

Of listening to rubbish spewed
by a 60 yar old ageing dude,
(with 2-3 cronies standing by his sides,
to hold him if he slips or slides)

All of us wearing fancy trousers and shirts,
the girls avoiding flashy skirts
putting our mobile phones on silent or vibration
but ultimately playing games on them in sheer desperation

Oh the ennui, the sheer boredom,
of listening to stale repetitive wisdom,

but there is at times the silver lining
when at the end with our hearts pining,
we somehow manage to spot the attendance sheet
like goats at the slaughter we begin to bleat,
out of sheer excitement at getting some return
for it is obvious that there was nothing to learn
from the PPT..and so it carries on,
we toil like the hardowrking pawn
in a game of chess,at placecom's behest
never ever do we get some rest
from the rapid fire schedule of these talks
Oh! how my mind balks
at the very thought of getting ready
and keeping my sleepy head steady
so as not to get fined
and hence I play games of the mind
to use my superior mental powers,
to get an early reprieve from these PPT showers
and rush into the mess for a well earned meal
(now isnt that a neat deal?)

and hence at last my story comes to an end
hope u had fn and didnt hav to pretend
a fake interest, that we hav to construe
for we r perenially stuck to PPTs with araldite glue!

A topsy turvy week!

I am writing this post on a Saturday..in a contemplative mood about the week gone by..
Had written about the story of a week in Term 4 also...but this time the week which i am going to talk abt now..ie the events of the past 7 days have been altogether different...
it all started last saturday...new years eve..me on my new exercise regimen to shed some kilos..(beleive it or not i actually gained weight wen on exchange!..just goes to show how good a cook i am :))
i even blogged that day after ages..a good beginning to a strange week...
sunday was spent lazily watching episodes of poirot, the pianist, the others etc etc...long backlog of movies i have to cover...
and then the events began to unfold..first i had sharp pain in my left most molar on the upper jaw..it was so bad that i culdnt concentrate on anything else..eating sleeping and going to class became quite an ordeal...till sunday it was tolerable but on monday wen things became bad i decided enuff was enuff and went to a dentist rite outside campus...
she informed me my wisdom teeth were erupting and hence the pain...the only option being to get them extracted..wow!..so i thot i will get a second opinion..and i then went to a dentist in JP Nagar on tuesday...this person cleaned up my teeth etc but resolutely told me to come on thursday for the surgery..mind all made up i was ready for it wen i realized that surgery was not a feasible option rite now coz the tooth hadnt really come out and hence they would have to go very deep into the gums to extract it..so i gave up the idea...
then on wednesday lo and behold i get shortlisted for a high profile interaction for a leading investment bank...the event was to be an inter IIM interaction with students from IIM A, B and C coming and the guest of honour was the head of global markets of the I-bank...a very charismatic person to say the least...
anyways the point was that seeing my name on the list came as a pleasant surprise... there were 10 names and that made my being there all the more sweeter..
but the short notice given to us meant we had to be ready to leave for delhi the very next morning with suits and shirts intact..that too in the wee hours of the morning!
the shortlist came at arnd 4.30 pm..our tickets were sent to us by mail at arnd 10pm and it felt great to see that i was flying business class for the first time in my life!!
i finally got to sleep at 2 am and had to wake up at 5....had already shaved the nite before to be on the safe side..coz the flite was at 7.45..so we had to leav campus by 6.15....
anyways we got to the airport and heaved a sigh of relief wen we heard that the flite was very much on time...jet airways roxx!!
sat with m on the flite and overall the flite was an eventful one due to certain happenings..
reached delhi at arnd 10.30 and it was like having reached heaven...i mean a winter where it actually feels cold..unlike the fraud bangalore winter where i am actually sitting under a fan rite now...
we had cabs waiting for us at the airport and they safely deposited us to the Maurya Sheraton where i figured that i got a room all to myself coz my room mate was in pune and joined us later...
we had to change and get ready within 20 mins and report at the west view restaurant on the top floor for the lunch where the iIMC invitees joined us...the IIMA guys came much later due to fog problems..hehe..and to think that ahmedabad is closest to delhi....
anyways we were then sent off to the Oberoi where we had the interaction...it went off decently me thot...two tables, loads of questions and some good snacks later we were ready to be carted off in the coach bak to our rooms...where i just crashed without even bothering to switch on the TV..wot a waste of five star amenities i must say..(btw we paid 300 bucks each to get our suits ironed!!)
got up again at 4.30 to get ready to catch flite bak to b'lore..was debating whether to take the flight on sunday and mayb go home in the meantime but decided against it finally...
anyways a nice short all expenses paid vacation...who could ask for more!
life does have its way at times, of making u feel u r worth it!..
